The 2015 Syrah Vale de Lobos was aged for just three months in used French oak and comes in at 14% alcohol. Tightly wound and rather fresh, this Syrah is focused and precise, with some of those beefy overlays the grape tends to show in this style. I rather liked this lively Syrah a lot. It has fine mid-palate depth, even better structure and a lot of character. There’s finesse, somehow with a little sex appeal. It could use another year or so in the cellar, as it is a bit tight, but it is still very approachable. It expands in the glass and develops over several hours. This is impressive, and it’s a fine value. Drink date: 2019-2030. Score – 92. (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, June 28, 2019)
