Parallax PUJANZA NORTE 2017 The first plot to be harvested in 2017 was the vineyard used for the 2017 Norte, as it ripened quite early, which is unusual, because it's the highest-altitude vineyard that is usually harvested last! It was bottled a little earlier. They used a little more new oak for the élevage, and there are some toasty aromas. It's a juicy and hedonistic red, and the early harvest made the alcohol level and other analytical data very similar to the 2016 I tasted next to it and also helped to balance the wine. It's still a baby, and the tannins are still quite noticeable. 11,000 bottles were filled in March 2019

For the 2017 Vin de France le Creation Usseglio combined Grenache from Châteauneuf du Pape and Lirac, maturing the wines in terracotta. The result is a full-bodied wine with oodles of mixed cherry and blueberry fruit. It's silky and long, a pure delight to drink for its sheer deliciousness and hedonism. STEFANO FARINA BAROLO 2012 This wine gushes with aromas of black and red fruits, mint, chalk, dried herbs and the vanilla and spice of high quality oak, which lead on to a full-bodied, yet velvety, palate with finely detailed tannins. It really pulsates with its energy, mesmerising your palate as it swoops by, culminating in a long and elegant finish. Score - 95. (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2019) MAY 17TH! $55.00 Parallax QUINTA DO POPA VV 2015 The 2015 VV (referencing 'Vinhas Velhas,' or old vines) is a field blend from old vines in a single vineyard planted in 1932 in the Cima Corgo subregion. It was aged, depending on lot, in mostly used French barriques for 12 to 15 months. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. Showing a bit more concentration than its less expensive siblings, this is also better structured. I loved its bright and fresh feel too. The acidity lifts the fruit on the palate. Tightly wound, focused and precise, this is beautifully done, an elegant red with firmness and everything in good balance. The juicy finish is particularly enticing. Drink date: 2019-2035.
